Objectives
- Provide a facility that would enable the Ministry of Finance & Planning to undertake policy decisions on various macro economic developments in Sri Lanka considering the implications of global economic trends on a continuous basis
- Analyze current economic developments and make economic forecasts to improve access to policy-relevant research
- Provide timely information in preparation of reports as stipulated by the Fiscal Management Responsibility Act
FUNCTIONS
- Compile and maintain a data base on Real, External, Fiscal and Monitory sector developments for economic analysis
- Analyze data inline with various macro economic policy responses/issues
- Prepare and follow up the developments in Balance of Payments and Budget Outturn
- Update information on Government’s fiscal performance for the preparation of Annual Report, Budget Economic and Fiscal Position Report and Mid- Year Fiscal Position Report
- Provide supportive information on Social Indicators, Lead Projects & Sectoral Developments, Public Service Salaries & Cadre, Social Welfare & Subsidies, Public Institutions etc
- Prepare periodicals: preparation of a Monthly/quarterly news letter with fiscal highlights and update online information to the Ministry web site
