The World Food Program (WFP) has assisted Sri Lanka in the past to feed displaced people affected by internal conflict, Tsunami, and various other natural disasters. His Excellency the President has proposed in budget 2014 to donate 50,000 MTs of rice to the WFP appreciating their assistance, providing food for the needy people who are faced with similar situations in other countries and strengthening the relationship with the WFP. It is an important event that Sri Lanka has transformed from a rice recipient country under the WFP to a donor country in achieving self sufficiency in rice.
Rs. 625 million Grant from the Government of Japan for Provision of Japanese Advanced Products (Medical Equipment and Welfare Apparatus)
Based on long term economic cooperation between the two countries the Government of Japan has agreed to provide grantassistance of Rs. 625 million under Non Project Grant Aid and Government of Sri Lanka has decided to utilize this grant to improve the health care facilities in National Hospitals, Teaching Hospitals, Provincial Hospitals, District Hospitals, Base Hospitals and Primary Medical Care Units to uplift the health standards of Sri Lankan citizens.
