State Minister of Samurdhi, Household Economy, Micro Finance, Self Employment, Business Development and Underutilized State Resources Development

1. Subjects and Functions

  1. Assisting in the formulation of policies in relation to the subject of Samurdhi, Household Economy, Micro Finance, Self Employment, Business Development and Underutilized State Resources Development for the creation of “People Centric Economy” under the direction and guidance of the Minister of Finance in conformity with the prescribed Laws, Acts and Ordinances and implementing, projects under the National Budget, State Investment and National Development Programme, and implementing, monitoring and evaluating subjects and functions of the below mentioned Departments, State Corporations and Statutory Organizations.

2. Special Priorities

  1. 1. Strengthen house-hold economic empowerment targeting Samurdhi beneficiaries, community-based programmes, micro-finance institutions and services, and expanding self-employment opportunities.
  2. 2. Expanding local production by promoting small and medium scale manufacturers.
  3. 3. Implementing a special programme facilitating easy provision of all facilities such as land on long-term lease basis, credit facilities, business consultancy services, technical and infrastructure facilities required by new entrepreneurs.
  4. 4. Formulating a methodology whereby all service facilities for small and medium scale industrial sector are provided by a single institution, and providing incentives required according priority in launching value addition industries in the said fields.
  5. 5. Implementing programmes for economic and social empowerment of persons with disabilities.

Hon. Shehan Semasinghe - State Minister of Samurdhi, Household Economy, Micro Finance, Self Employment, Business Development and Underutilized State Resources Development

Hon. Shehan Semasinghe, State Minister of Samurdhi, Household Economy, Micro Finance, Self Employment, Business Development and Underutilized State Resources Development is a Sri Lankan Politician belonging to the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Party. He was the State Minister of Development Banks and Loans during the earlier government. He is a Member of Parliament of Sri Lanka from Anuradhapura district since 2010. He was graduated from the Delhi University and read for his MBA at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.

He serves as a member of various committees such as Sectoral Oversight Committee on National Security, Select Committee of Parliament to study and report to Parliament its recommendation to ensure National Evaluation Capacity in Sri Lanka and Committee on Public Accounts and has previously served in committees such as Select Committee of Parliament to discuss the Heads of Expenditure of Ministries selected from the Budget Estimates of the year 2018.
